Ka Shawn grows big and is sent to an all white high school where it takes him a while to ajust but once he does he is honored as a basketball star until the bottom falls out. Ka Shawn does make it to college where he plays for an up and coming team but the transition here is even harder. Then Ka Sawn becomes successful in academics as well as ball. He gets what he needs and the team makes the big time. Then curruption sets in. Trying to Make this thing Right is fictional but is based on events that happenned at the University of Massachusetts while John Calipari was coach. This is a unique book that speaks to education African American Education reconsiling with home reconnection back to urban communities the building of a strong college basketball organization and college sports curruption.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Stephen Satell is an award winning writer of No Gang War in 74 and Frances Ellen Watkins Harper. Satell was introduced to the black community when he left home at fourteen and hitchhiked across the country to Texas. It was there he fell in love with black culture. Mr. Satell worked as head academic tutor for John Calipari's university of Massachusetts basketball team in the early ninties. Satell has run the Bridging Worlds Program for over twenty years and is currently working on a doctorite in African American Studies at Temple University.
