Inhaltsangabe

A farm boy must work as a railroad man to save his family in depression era Tennessee, even if it means giving up his own dreams. When his father leaves the family (four children and a pregnant wife) to find work up north, Will has to abandon school and his boyhood dreams. Mistaken for a man, the boy finds himself working on a train shoveling coal and earning a steady check. Clever and resourceful, Will jumps at every opportunity, collecting the discards around him to earn money and feed the family. When his mother is hospitalized it means their farm is suddenly at stake. Each day he faces the fear of discovery and losing his job, a job they need more than ever. Will never loses faith or falters. Through it all, he dreams of being more, of returning to school and someday being a real monopoly king.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

J.R. Biery has been a writer for over forty years. She wrote and sold fiction and nonfiction to magazines while a stay-at home mom. Loved entering writing contests and won several awards. After she began her career as a teacher, she found it was more satisfying just to continue writing but not worry about marketing. She did have one novel, Potter's Field, accepted and published by Advance Books, a small press no longer in business. "I prefer stories about ordinary people who are slapped by adversity and discover who they really are as they overcome the challenge. An avid reader, I began writing my own books in my twenties. I found writing, escaping into fantasy, to be a great source of comfort and relief from the stress of real life. No matter how big the problem, in fiction you can always write a satisfying solution." Since retiring, she has written seven new books and five screenplays. Now publishing a few of the later books on Kindle and Create Space.
