Inhaltsangabe

The purpose of this revised and updated (2014) edition of my addictions counseling book is to meet the needs of those dedicated individuals already working in the field as well as those interested in becoming addiction professionals who are seeking to master the counselor competencies and obtain credentials required in the addictions field. This edition uses a workbook format and incorporates the many significant changes made to the field, particularly those changes occurring in the past 10 years. This book includes the following: expansion of empirically supported, evidence-based practices (EBPs); discussion of changes in the DSM-V and ICD Codes; a structure based on the 123 counselor competencies developed by SAMHSA and the Twelve Core Functions; highlighting of assessment tools, cultural and gender diversity, and co-occurring disorders; sections on psychoactive drugs other than alcohol and pharmacotherapies; and the opportunity to take online exams and earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) based on this material.
