Davenport is forbidden, by local police, to have anything to do with the case but is asked by the widow to find out what he can. The action goes from exotic Penang to Glasgow where the final denouement takes place.

Frances Macarthur lives on the South side of Glasgow. Before retiring in 1998, she taught English in two Glasgow school and was PT English in one of them. This is the fifth book in a crime series featuring Charles Davenport and his police team. The author has holidayed many times in Penang and has used her experiences there to give a colourful description of the lovely island where the murder of an unpleasant Glaswegian takes place.
