Whether it’s luck or God’s blessings, my sometimes forgetful brain recalls vignettes from long ago, or last week – some on purpose, others that simply pop up unbidden. Thus, these essays are tidbits or morsels that emerged from the recesses of my brain. In keeping with the Country Boy theme of all my books, this one is titled Snippets From a Country Boy’s Mind. I wrote these randomly as topics came to mind. Hopefully, there is something here to suit everybody; the book includes amusing stories (hopefully), a few tirades, tender thoughts, 70-year-old reminiscences and essays on life as I view it. There’s nothing earthshattering here, but if I can get one of you to laugh, or get mad enough to call your congressman, or shed a tear when reminded of your own snippets, then my undertaking is a success. And if you disagree with my viewpoints, don’t waste time telling me. Write a book of your own so that I can read it and disagree with you – or maybe change my mind. You won’t need a bookmark for this one; just breeze through a story, drop it back onto the coffee table and open it at another spot next time. I suspect that some readers will keep their copies in their main libraries, those little rooms with porcelain furniture just past the double vanity. I would consider such treatment an honor. One of my favorite Sam Caldwell prints hangs above my porcelain chair and I think of old Sam several times a day – every time I face that Artist’s Proof of Big Mouth & Bud; Lake Livingston.

Morris Gresham enjoyed simultaneous careers. He began in the mechanical design field in 1960 and worked through several design and management engineering positions until his retirement as a senior mechanical engineer in 2002. He currently is a freelance writer living in Ovilla, Texas. He began hunting and fishing during his youth on an Erath County, Texas farm during the 1940s. He began his writing career in 1974 and has since published hundreds of magazine articles in dozens of national, regional and state publications. He has been published in Sports Afield, Outdoor Life, Bassmaster Magazine, Texas Fisherman, Texas Fish & Game Magazine, Texas Trophy Hunters Magazine, Texas Parks & Wildlife Magazine, Texas Sportsman Magazine, The In-Fisherman and many others. Gresham was the Outdoors columnist for the DeSoto, Texas Focus Daily News in 2002-2003 and won a national writing competition for one of those columns. He was a columnist for The Skeet Shooting Review, a national publication, from August, 1996 until his retirement in January, 2009, winning another national competition for one of those columns. He served as the Skeet Shooting Review’s World Championships of Skeet reporter for nine years. Gresham served as editor of USA Outdoors, a national publication, in 1985. He edited other publications, among them, Our Inland Fisheries, Bass Clubber Magazine and The Texas Lake Atlas. Since Gresham’s retirement from magazine and newspaper writing, he published four books, including this one.
