David Wyman Patten was selected by the Three called to establish the Twelve Apostles of the newly restored church. The twelve selected were then set in order by their birth dates from the oldest to the youngest. The first three were Thomas B. Marsh, David W. Patten and Brigham Young. Brother Patten was killed in the Battle of Crooked Creek before Thomas Marsh was excommunicated which passed the leadership of the twelve to Brigham Young. This work is as originally published in 1900 to include grammar and spelling that is consistent with language of that day.
