Jack Ross is in a downward spiral. He leaves a prestigious law firm out of idealism and personal pique. Then, his wife leaves. His partner abandons him for alcohol rehab. Jack falls from the top of the legal pecking order to become a desperate bottom-feeder. Salvation seems to appear in the form of a mountainous African-American preacher who claims to be a prophet. The case, at first, seems to be just a matter of black folks and their store-front preacher being forced out of a neighborhood through gentrification. But the pursuit of justice turns up a political conspiracy, real estate racial red-lining, kidnapping, and murder. Jack is forced to turn for help to a hustler and petty criminal and to an ambitious female reporter. A high price must be paid by all of them to learn the truth of Reverend Brown's prophecy.

False Prophet is set in Indianapolis, where the author practiced law for 30 years and was deeply involved in local politics and the Bar. The legal case in the book involving the persecution of an inner-city preacher is inspired by one the author handled early in his career. It taught him that with grit and determination and, when people of different colors work together, justice can be done. The love story is one of frustration and self-destruction, but ultimately understanding, reconciliation, and a renewed intimacy.

Jeff Rasley is a member of the US Supreme Court Bar and practiced law in Indiana and the federal courts for 30 years. Characters and events are fictional, but based on Rasley's experience of representing clients ranging from Fortune 500 CEOs to crooks and crack heads.

Jeff Rasley is author of eight books and over 50 published articles (as well as numerous photos) in academic and mainstream periodicals, including Newsweek, Chicago Magazine, ABA Journal, Family Law Review, Pacific Magazine, Indy’s Child, The Journal of Communal Societies, The Chrysalis Reader, Faith & Fitness Magazine, Friends Journal and Real Travel Adventures International Magazine. Rasley practiced law for thirty years in Indianapolis, Indiana and was admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court Bar. He is a graduate of the University of Chicago, A.B. magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, All-Academic All-State Football Team and letter winner in swimming and football; Indiana University School of Law, J.D. cum laude, Moot Court and Indiana Law Review; Christian Theological Seminary, M.Div. magna cum laude, co-valedictorian and Faculty Award Scholar. Rasley is currently partner with his wife, Alicia Rasley, in Midsummer Books, president of the Basa Village Foundation USA Inc., U.S. liaison for the Nepal-based Himalayan expedition company, Adventure GeoTreks, Ltd., and teaches a class on philosophy of philanthropy for Butler University's Honors Program. He serves as an officer or director for six nonprofit corporations.
