It is for the P2P insurance providers, robo-advising technology developers, FinTech entrepreneurs, and Venture Capitalists who are speeding to fund the Financial Technology startups across Europe. It was 2008, when working for a large bank, and studying Economics for masters’, I started to take deeper interest upon the subject of research into the origin of money, credit, finance and banking. I requested the panel to grant me the subject of “Odyssey of European Banking” for my thesis, but I was turned down for unforeseen reasons. I did not give up and started my research from Indus-Valley civilization, and traveled in Far East, Middle East, CIS, MENA, and Europe for eight years, following the footsteps for Finance and taking notes. Many students of Banking and Finance are aware of the name of The Bank of Venice but they are unaware of the events surrounding the conception, evolution, and downfall of the Bank of Venice, even many does not discern that it was not actually a Bank of Venice but it was a couple of banks, with different names and purposes. Little is known about the mechanisms, and commerce of the earlier banks of Europe. The importance of this knowledge increased, particularly in the post-financial crisis world, when Finance is changing rapidly from being concentrated into a few hands to the billions of hands, carrying mobile devices around the world.
