This is a Ukrainian translation of the original novel in Russian. «Airport» is neither a war chronicle, nor a documentary, nor an investigative novel. It is a work of fiction based on true facts and events. The novel has a lot of characters and many intertwining dramatic plot lines. The novel is not only and not so much about the war everyone thought was impossible. It is also about love, betrayal, passion, cheating, hate, rage, tenderness, courage, pain and death. In other words, this is a book about our today's and yesterday's life.Biografía del autor:
Sergei L. Loiko, born in Moscow in 1953, a staff correspondent and photographer, has covered wars, crises and daily life in Russia and the former Soviet states for the Los Angeles Times since 1991. Before that he worked as a translator and reporter for AP, a producer for TV/am "Good morning, Britain." He reported from northern Afghanistan in 2001 and from Iraq in 2003. In 2005, he contributed to then-Moscow Bureau Chief Kim Murphy’s Pulitzer Prize-winning reports. His book, “Shock and Awe, War in Iraq,” published in Russian in 2004, was a regional best-seller. Mr. Loiko is a Los Angeles Times 2015 editorial award winner for beat reporting from Ukraine. The award citation: "The incomparable Ukrainian coverage by Sergei Loiko takes guts, game – and a career's worth of knowledge of the region." Mr. Loiko is also an OPC Bob Considine 2015 Award winner. The award citation: “The Los Angeles Times coverage of the Ukrainian conflict stood out from the rest for its guts, credibility, originality, depth and sophistication of interpretation, and its engaging writing style that made every story a gripping and compelling read. The intimacy of detail – the shattered glass of the airport terminal, the magic helmet, the bullet hole described to the second decimal point, the minibus from hell – combined with sophisticated analysis of how the economic effects disrupted everyone’s daily lives. The reporter's bravery took us to places we hadn’t seen before.” In 2003 Loiko's documentary book "Shock and Awe" about the 2003 war in Iraq was published in Moscow, in Russian. In 2015 Loiko's novel Airport about the 242-day siege of Donetsk airport by Ukraine separatists and Russian regular troops was published in Kiev with a circulation of 40,000. Loiko was the only foreign reporter and photographer who manged to get inside the airport in 2014 and live with the defenders for four days. Later in the year his audio-book Airport was published in Kiev. The presentations of both books in Kiev, Helsinki, Tallinn, Dubai and Prague were attended by thousands of Russian- and Ukrainian-speaking people. Now the book is being translated into Polish, Estonian, Georgian and Dutch to be published in those countries in February and March 2016. Before joining the Times, he was a television producer, a sergeant in the Strategic Rocket Forces and an English language high school teacher. Loiko graduated from Moscow State Pedagogical University.
