The following selections are flashes of insight that came to me as I prayed, meditated, and contemplated. I cannot sit down and compose the initial insights by an act of the will. They cannot be forced into existence. My daily prayer has been that they be written in the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is like the wind that blows where it pleases, and my sails are up. The jottings are freestanding, not connected to what comes before or after. I consider them pearls because, although they are wrapped in my sentences, they are insights from God.

Howard Laing was born and raised in Bedford, Ohio, and has now retired with his wife Wanda in Chillicothe, Ohio. He has had a dual career, an ordained minister, pastoring several churches, and an Associate Professor of Literature at the University of Northwestern, St. Paul, and Philadelphia College of Bible (now Cairn University).
