The purpose of Service-Oriented Architecture: Principles and Applications is to share my understanding of service-oriented architecture. SOA is an architectural pattern in software in which application components provide services to other components.

This book of over 100,000 words and twenty chapters has three parts. I will explain fundamental SOA principles in the first part. The second part shows how we can synergize SOA with clouds, business intelligence, mobility, Big Data, AI, and other applications. Finally, I will discuss next generation SOA.

This book has been in print now for ten years, since 2015. I wrote it at a level of abstraction so that it would remain relevant despite seismic changes in technology and policy.

I’ve also added Appendix H: “How to Find Your Next IT Position.” The despair and bitterness of so many otherwise skilled and competent people who struggle to find work in IT, sometimes after countless resumes and hundreds of hours, need not be, even in today's challenging times.

I’ve spent my working life as a full-time employee or as a consultant where I’ve seen at the grassroots level the best and the worst of more than a dozen brand-name corporations. I’ve worked for JPMorgan Chase, Boeing, Intel and other leading companies as an architect, analyst, and as a developer with forty-five years of information technologies experience.
