Excerpt from Environment and Nation: Geographical Factors in the Cultural and Political History of Europe
The author places above all other considerations the preservation of World Peace; so that he believes that all educators should keepever in mind the saying In times of Peace, make Peace secure. It is his belief that no one can properly understand the European Political Complex without knowing the fundamentals of the Cultural and topographic background. These interact, and it is precisely because the geographies omit the Culture and the histories omit the Topography that the writer ventures to hope that this book will find a useful place in the classes of both subjects.
Needless to say, many books have been consulted and the chief of these are listed in the footnotes. But there are half a dozen which should be in the library of every student in this field, and I am glad to acknowledge my indebtedness to them here.
