One division of the work is concerned with the survey of the meridians and base lines of the Dominion Lands System of survey. The second division deals with lines of precise levels which are run to control the accumulation of such errors as are unavoidable in levels taken under the difficulties surround ing the survey of base lines, and also includes other lines of levels whose object is to afford much needed information in the-partly settled lands.
