A second mode of approach still deals with the animal as a whole, not externally as a problem in mechanics, but as a neuro muscular system, as an organism which reacts in characteristic ways to external changes. This, the study of animal behaviour, which may reasonably be said to have originated with the work of Lloyd Morgan, has since been pursued with vigour, particularly in America by zoologists and psychologists. Within this sphere of investigation comes the study of the behaviour of Protozoa and hence part at least of the study of amoeboid and ciliary processes.
