The present work, which has been achieved after the labour of many years and the expenditure of a large sum of money, was undertaken with the View of removing the difficulties which tend to make the collection of coins laborious I'and unsatisfactory to all except the expert.
For convenience's sake I have divided the work in two Sections, the first comprizing all coin-types representing inanimate objects, plants, etc., which occur either alone or as symbols in conjunction with figures, animals, etc., the second all coin-types representing animate objects, such as figures of deities, heroes, dynasts, animals, etc.
