Excerpt from Characterization of Frequency Stability
This paper attempts to present (as concisely as practical) adequate, self-consistent definitions of frequency stability. Since more than one definition of frequency stability is presented, an important part of this paper (perhaps the most important part) deals with translations among the suggested definitions of frequency stability. The applicability of these definitions to the more common noise models is demonstrated.
Consistent with an attempt to be concise, the references cited have been selected on the basis of being of most value to the reader rather than on the basis of being exhaustive. An exhaustive reference list covering the subject of frequency stability would itself be a voluminous publication.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book seeks to establish a definition for measuring frequency stability, a concept of critical importance in the development of technologies dependent upon precise electronic signals, such as navigation and communications systems. A proposed definition is the spectral density of frequency fluctuations, a measure of noise distribution in frequency signals over time. The book explores the relationship between the physical attributes of various electronic systems and their frequency stability, as well as translations between related measurement techniques. The book also endeavors to ensure consistent terminology when discussing frequency stability. Of particular value to engineers and scientists in the fields of electronics, timekeeping, and communication, this book hopes to contribute to the general body of knowledge surrounding frequency stability, enabling the development of more precise and reliable electronic devices in the future.
