The present paper deals with the problem of finding fundamental sets or solutions for ayatm of linear differ ential equations which have a regular singular point. A singular point; is called regular if the Laurent expansion of the solutions about that point contaim a finite number of terms with negative exponents.

The problem was first: 801m by Hem about 1891. Tho first direct treatment was given by J. A. War in 1929. The methods employed in this paper are essentially those used by Nyawandor. For the sake of simplicity the umber of 69pm dent: variables, and hence the number of equations, is limited to two.
