Excerpt from Electron Microscope Study of Microtexture and Grain Surfaces in Limestones
Electron micrographs of direct-carbon replicas hav ing magnifications of 5400 to 23, 500 times reveal in detail the grain size, shape, and packing of the particles compris ing very fine-grained limestones. At these magnifications, however, only portions of a few grains in medium or coarse grained limestones can be observed. Grain contacts are mostly curvilinear in very fine-grained limestones but are more frequently straight in coarse-grained limestones The width of the grain contacts varies.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. Through the use of electron microscopy, this book provides a detailed analysis of the microtexture and grain surfaces of limestones. The author presents an array of electron micrographs that highlight the variations in grain size, shape, and packing in limestones, revealing the intricate and diverse structural characteristics of these rocks. The book explores the nature of grain contacts, examining their shape, width, and the presence of impurities. It also investigates the microtextures of fractured limestone surfaces, shedding light on the mechanisms of tensile and shear fracture. By studying the surface morphology of limestones, the author uncovers valuable insights into the physical properties and behavior of these rocks, providing a deeper understanding of their geological significance and use in various applications.
