However, to achieve this without sacrificing morals, the athletic program would need to be expanded to a degree the college does not deem feasible. The author provides historical context of athletics at the college, and explains that Oberlin's athletic ideals do not align with those of many other institutions. In the end, the author asserts that Oberlin has remained true to its principles, despite the perception of some that its athletic program has caused moral decline.
