Francisco de Paula y Marin, a Spanish horticulturist (yee, it later came to be known as the Hawaiian or common mango. Mango trees were also brought from the Philippines to Hawaii by Captain John Meek in 1824. Since that time, many other cultivars of mango have been introduced, and the tree now flourishes in many gardens and small plantings.
