Dant at St. Paul's School in Concord, N. H.,-grad uated at Harvard, was admitted to the Bar, and com menced the practice of law'in Boston under the firm name of Ayer Babcock. By the disability Of his father, Dr. James. C. Ayer, he was called from his legal practice to the management of the estate which has fully occupied his time since the death of his father in 1878. His residence is, and has been for many years, in New York City. As is well known in Mass achusetts he has been a very generous benefactorof the Lowell Textile School, his first contribution thereto enabling the Trustees to purchase the beautiful site on the banks of the Merrimack, and erect thereon the fine school building, a fitting monument to his generosity, named in honor of his grandfather Southwick Hall. His continuing contributions which amount in the aggregate to the great sum of have enabled the Trustees to add extensively to the grounds and.
