Tm: design of this publication is to furnish a collection of such works, on the most important branches of knowl edge, as ought to be in the possession of every intelligent family. It is intended to embrace in it only works of per manent utility, and such as will present the subjects of which they treat in the most authentic form, with the ad vantage of all the lights which shall have been shed upon them, by the labors of the learned and scientific, up to the time of publication. It will consist, in part, of approved works of foreign origin, which shall be considered particularly adapted to the object in view, and, in part, of works written for the pur se, by distinguished native authors, under the direction 0 the editor, and the sanction of the Society which has interested itself in the promotion of the publication. It is intended that each work shall be written in a style which shall be intelligible to the careful reader, although he may have little other previous acquaintance with the particular subject treated of, than may have been acquired from the preceding volumes of the series; yet it is hoped that they will be regarded as far from superficial, and that they will not be thought unworth' of the attention of the accomplished scholar and man 0 science. Controverted doctrines will be, as much as possible, avoided, and the great aim of the work will be to aid in the general dissemination of facts and principles, which most enlightened men unite in regarding as true, and worthy of being generally known.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book presents instructive discourse about the importance of applying practical science to the mechanical arts. The author contends that while theoretical knowledge is valuable, it is through practical application that the true value of science is realized. The author supports this thesis by presenting examples of how practical science has led to significant advancements and improvements in various fields, particularly in the development of new technologies and inventions. The author argues that the integration of practical science into mechanical arts elevates the status of mechanics and artisans, providing them opportunities to not only master their craft but also contribute to its advancement as scientific inquirers. Through accessible language and engaging examples, the author emphasizes the rewards of pursuing practical science, including personal fulfillment, recognition, and financial gain. The book concludes by highlighting the potential for widespread progress and innovation when a large number of individuals engage in the study and application of practical science. The author suggests that this approach fosters an environment of continuous learning, skill development, and inventive thinking, ultimately leading to transformative outcomes in the field of mechanical arts. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 9781528401227_0
