Reseña del editor:
Numbers 23:9 refers to the Biblical verse “... Lo, it is a people that shall dwell alone and shall not be reckoned among the nations.” Rabbi Kahane explained, “We must never fear to be alone, for that is the Jewish blessing that has saved the Jew from assimilation and that is what will make the final miracle and the Jewish victory all the more great and astounding.” He endeavored to persuade Jews that Israel should not depend on allies; that when Israel is isolated, with no allies, the Almighty comes to His people’s aid. “To be alone, a curse? Precisely the opposite! To be alone is the salvation of the Jew and the sanctification of G-d’s name. “Assyria will not save us...” (Hosea 14). ... If we understand this, we – ourselves – will bring the redemption and salvation. Rabbi Kahane wrote this booklet shortly after the Yom Kippur War, It was published in 1974 in quarto format, typewritten and mimeographed. One year later, in 1975, the present small format version was printed. It may have been inspired by the Yom Kippur War but its message is true today: “The Jew always works on two parallel levels. He does not merely trust in miracles and suffice with prayers but rather prepares for battles by all natural means. At the same time he realizes that not with his strength or the power of his arm alone can victory ever come.”
Biografía del autor:
Rabbi Meir Kahane was born in New York City in 1932. He studied at the Mir Yeshiva in Brooklyn and was ordained in 1956. The same year, he completed New York Law School and later received a Masters degree in International Relations from New York University. After serving as a congregational rabbi, he found the Jewish Defense League in 1968 to combat anti-Semitism. Concerned about the alienation and assimilation of Jewish youth, Rabbi Kahane spent two decades touring American college campuses, exhorting Jewish students to learn about Judaism, make Aliya to Israel, and to stand up proudly as Jews. In 1970 he spearheaded a campaign of Jewish activism which led to the emigration of tens of thousands of oppressed Jews from the Soviet Union. He entered the political arena in Israel when he made Aliya in 1971, and was a member of the Knesset in Israel from 1984 to 1988. He authored several best-selling books, including Never Again, Why Be Jewish and The Story of the Jewish Defense League. His widely-read columns appeared weekly in the Jewish Press from 1961 to 1990.
