Niclas Olson’s adaptations of Shakespeare’s HAMLET, ROMEO AND JULIET, Christopher Marlowe’s DOCTOR FAUSTUS, August Strindberg’s MISS JULIE, Luigi Pirandello's SIX CHARACTERS IN SEARCH OF AN AUTHOR, and Henrik Ibsen’s GHOSTS and A DOLL'S HOUSE were commissioned and performed by New Muses Theatre Company. His original plays LAST WALTZ ON A MIDNIGHT VIOLIN and DIRTY LAUNDRY have been staged at Pacific Lutheran University. He studied playwriting in London and received his degree in theatre from Pacific Lutheran University. Born in 1849, August Strindberg was a Swedish playwright, novelist, and painter. His wide ranging and prolific career spanned four decades and produced notable works including MASTER OLAF, THE FATHER, TO DAMASCUS, EASTER, THE DANCE OF DEATH, THE GHOST SONATA, and A DREAM PLAY among others. He was instrumental in popularizing the “chamber play” in Europe; and highly influential in the development of naturalism and, later, expressionism in the theatre. Tennessee Williams, Edward Albee, Eugene O’Neil, John Osborne, and Ingmar Bergman are among the many artists who have cited Strindberg as an influence on their writing and careers. Strindberg died in 1912.
