Inhaltsangabe

In this book, the author, W. Arthur Ralph, Describes this beloved Oratorio as more than just that. He sees it as a perennial Spiritual Teaching. Most of those who perform or listen to Handel’s masterpiece each year at Christmas time will agree that it is divinely inspired, but generally they are thinking of the musical work. While the music is magnificent and inspiring, in this interpretation, the author gives his attention to the words, and shows how fragments of scripture have been selected from the Old and New Testaments and rearranged to form a work that becomes scripture in itself. Here is the key by which The Messiah becomes a teaching that leads the Seeker to the foundation of his own being, and to the origin of life itself. It gives an entirely new dimension to what is probably Handel’s greatest work.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

William Arthur Ralph, born in 1911, in England, was the younger son of an architect. He was fascinated by mathematics and music, and became an accomplished violinist. There were four passions in Arthur’s life: his family; his spiritual/metaphysical quest – of which Freemasonry was a part; his music; and his teaching. Although he had practiced each career and his musical interests with the enthusiasm and diligence that characterized his approach to life, none had claimed his whole attention or had ever been of prime importance to him. That place was preserved for a single idea which ran consistently through his entire life – the search for understanding the nature of his own being, the purpose of his existence, and the relationship of both to God. That search had started in his youth with the effort to reconcile the world’s grief and suffering with the existence of a merciful God. Before his own death in 1975 he had learned far more than that; he had found himself. He had also come to realize that many others had been that way, had found the same answer, and had left behind clues or models to assist those who would follow. The Messiah is such a model.
