Once again Georgetown is stricken by tragedy, only this time it’s personal. Instead of joining the long-planned and eagerly awaited party in celebration of former Sheriff Amos Grimm’s 80th birthday, Karl and Brenda Shoemaker find themselves in a large crowd of mourners offering their condolences to the grieving widow. Their friend had been murdered. The town is in shock. No clue as to motive or method. The man accused of the killing is held in the Georgetown Detention Center. After consulting with Sheriff Linus Thompson, Shoemaker is not convinced. Together with Deputy Antonio Caparelli he wastes no time and begins investigating the circumstances surrounding Amos’ death. The expansion of a notorious Chicago gang into the Palmetto State makes this endeavor not only difficult but downright dangerous.
