Belton Piedmont and Bernard Belgrave begin their lives as childhood friends, but that friendship is not bound to last. Belton (modeled on Booker T. �ber die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Sutton E. Griggs (1872–1933) was an African American theologian and author best known for his visionary utopian novel, Imperium in Imperio.

Born in Chatfield, Texas, Griggs attended Richmond Theological Seminary in Virginia. Upon graduation, he followed in his father’s footsteps to pursue a calling as a Baptist minister. A vocal activist, Griggs founded Orion Publishing Company, producing writings on racism and social and economic injustice specifically for an African American readership. Griggs’s more than forty works include pamphlets, religious and political tracts, and five novels.
