Matt Maley is an artist & writer living in the Hudson Valley, N.Y.. After graduating in 1990 with a degree in Fine Arts from S.U.N.Y. Purchase, he began his career as a production artist for Archie Comics. He was then hired by Marvel as a letterer and logo designer. Responsibilities quickly expanded to include penciling and inking licensed titles such as Ren & Stimpy and Beauty & the Beast. In 1993 Matt went rogue (aka freelance) when New York was flush with illustration opportunities. Art departments needed artists to fill their magazines, digests and young adult novels with puzzle pages, story art and comics. It was the golden of the independent artist working for companies such as Disney, Nickelodeon and Children’s Television Workshop. There was a tremendous need for people who could wear several hats; brand development, licensed, product and original illustration. Since the early 90’s, Matt has continued working with creative teams for various environmental, social and educational projects. Institutions like Smithsonian, NY Newsday, N.Y.C. Dept. of Health, Scholastic, National Council of La Raza, Hudson River Museum, Marist College and Tor/Macmillan Publishing continue to benefit from his collaborative work ethic. Matt has always shared his skills as an artist and educator by visiting classrooms, teaching after school art classes and donating designs for fundraisers, public awareness and political campaigns. You can say that Matt Maley has a unique take on satirical children’s books. His stories are built around dialogue interpreted from the real tweets and quotes.
