Winter in Montreal consists of the stories of Onofrio Annibalini and Roberto Perussi that become one novel by way of mysterious plots. The first recounts the delusions and humiliations suffered by a poor Italian peasant, Onofrio Annibalini, who is conned by a padrone (job agent). He realises, only too late, that the job he has been promised in Montreal, and for which he paid handsomely, does not exist. The second story, instead, recounts the way power is exercised Mafia-style by a prominent member of the Italian community, who uses any means, however illicit, to get himself elected to Montreal's city council. - Filippo Salvatore. Spanning fifty years, these poems of love, sexuality, motherhood, loneliness, old age and death are culled from the lifetime of Dorothy Livesay's expression of the woman she is. Born in Winnipeg in 1909, Dorothy Livesay began early as a poet, but also was a journalist, social worker, editor, broadcaster, university professor, and writer-in-residence. Twice winner of the Governor General's Award for Poetry, Dorothy Livesay published nearly twenty-five books since 1928. A founding member of the League of Canadian Poets, she received several honorary degree
