Edward F. Stankowski Jr., a second-generation son of eastern European immigrants, was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After graduating from high school, Stankowski worked as a steelworker and was a member of the United Steelworker s Union from 1978 through 1983. In addition to a bachelor s degree in English writing, he earned a master of fine arts degree in creative nonfiction from the University of Pittsburgh. Stankowski has served as editor, beat reporter, columnist and reporter for a number of publications. He currently is assistant professor of humanities in the English Department at La Roche College.
