Now Dan is about to realize that no matter how wise safety might seem, when it comes to real life, he's going to have to break all the rules.

Co-writer Pierce Gardner was inspired to write Dan in Real Life after years of going on summer vacations to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, with his wife's extended family. He also wrote the script for Lost Souls.

Peter Hedges adapted his first novel, What'sEating Gilbert Grape, for director Lasse Hallström.His second novel was An Ocean in Iowa. His otherscreenplay adaptations include A Map of the Worldand About a Boy, which was nominated for anAcademy Award^® for Best Adapted Screenplay.
