Shiva Rahbaran was born in 1970 in Tehran. She left Iran for Germany in 1984, where she studied literature and political science at the Heinrich-Heine-Universtat Dusselorf. She continued her studies at Oxford University, where she was granted a Ph.D. in English literature.
