No doubt your students have heard something about Internet safety ever since they were old enough to begin spending time online, and most of them likely feel that they're smart enough to avoid the pitfalls. But the risks associated with using the Internet are not always obvious, and research shows that teens are being successfully manipulated and targeted by scammers and marketers. Authors Fodeman and Monroe have combined experience of more than 50 years working with students, and for the last 10 years have focused their attention on understanding the issues that affect teens online. They have surveyed and spoken to thousands of students about their Internet behavior and experiences, and have heard from teachers and administrators from dozens of schools about issues concerning their students use of the Internet.
Containing dozens of classroom-tested exercises and hundreds of links to Web sites, documents, and resources, Safe Practices for Life Online offers practical advice to help middle and high school students stay safe online by making better choices and minimizing their risks.
