In 1948 Irgun and allied Stem Gang soldiers massacred more than 200 residents of Deir Yassin, a tiny village near Jerusalem. The resulting conflict forced into exile over 750,000 Palestinians. These disinherited people spread throughout neighbouring countries and have maintained a burning desire to return to their homeland.
