From the Dust Jacket: "By the third year of the Great War, 1916, the German Army was no longer the same organization that had started the war. This book looks at how the new concepts of management and their application contributed to the Central Powers' achievement on the Eastern Front from 1916 to 1918. It also explores the disunity caused by distrust and catastrophic shortages of armaments that the Entente and its allies suffered in this area. High casualty rates among its predominantly peasant soldiers and aristocratic officers had led to the induction of large numbers from the middle class and from among the industrial workers. Gone too were the notions of a romantic war. Ideals of heroism had been snuffed out by the efficient application of weapons and tactics to the new battlefields. To many, World War I is stereotyped by incessant trench warfare. This may be true for those who see the Western Front as the only true representation of the Great War. However, for the German soldier there was an equally important Eastern Front. In that theater, the Central Powers' armies were victorious to the point of winning all their objectives. By 1918, Austro-Hungarian, German, Bulgarian and Turkish soldiers occupied Serbia, Montenegro, Rumania, The Baltic Coast, most of European Russia and the Ukraine. This accomplishment is largely overlooked or down played. VICTORY IN THE EAST chronicles the events which occurred on the Eastern Front from largely a German point of view. It begins in 1916 and concludes in 1919." . First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine condition/Very Good dust jacket. 8vo. vii, 99pp. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 008704
