Introduction

"Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal" (Mt. 6:20).

We all have family, friends, and neighbors who have not come to a saving knowledge of God's grace. They do not know Jesus as their Savior. Our hearts are burdened when we know our loved ones are missing the best God has for them.

The Lord once gave me a word picture for encouragement as I began to grow weary in praying for an unsaved family member. I saw a picture in my mind that each prayer we pray is like placing a gold brick in our loved one's path. Our prayers are paving a golden road from earth to the throne room of heaven.

I pray these scripture prayers will be helpful as you are praying for your friends and family. May the Lord give you the certainty to know you are asking according to His will because He desires "all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth" (1 Tim. 2:4). May the Lord bless you with perseverance as you offer each golden prayer. -Terry Gooding

Suggestions for Using Paths of Gold

1. Keep one booklet for each individual you are praying for. Write your friend's name in the copy, along with important details about them you can think of-things that might help you pray with more insight.

2. As you pray, watch for signs that God is at work in his/her life. Each section of prayers has a "Signs that God is moving:" heading. Write down any encouraging signs you see here. Use the things you write down as fuel for your prayers.

3. These prayers are just starting points. You can recite them as you pray, but we suggest trying to branch out from them. As you know things that are happening in your friend's life, add prayers about those situations.

4. Give this book of prayers to your friend when he/she becomes a believer. Explain what you did for him/her, and encourage your friend to begin praying for one of his friends.

5. Keep extra copies of this guide on hand. Give copies out to others who express their desire to pray effectively for their friends and loved ones. Use Paths of Gold to encourage and challenge other believers to pray regularly for the lost.

Spiritual Blindness

Many do not realize their need for a Savior because the god of this world, Satan, has blinded their minds (2 Cor. 4:4). The enemy has deceived people so that they cannot see the light of the gospel. In a sense, their minds have a covering over them that doesn't allow them to see or understand spiritual truth. Our responsibility is to pray for that covering to be removed.

May they understand their lost condition.

May __________ know that he/she cannot stand on his/her own righteousness. No one can because there is no one righteous, not even one (Ro. 3:10).

Although __________ has been spiritually blind, please give him/her eyes to see Jesus (Jn. 9:25).

May __________ know You are Lord; and there is no Savior besides You (Is. 43:11).

Help __________ to understand that the unrighteous will not inherit your kingdom, God (1 Cor. 6:9).

Lord, may __________ know that You desire for him/her to be saved and come to the knowledge of Your truth (1 Tim. 2:4).

Lord, I pray that Satan will no longer blind __________'s mind, which causes him/her not to believe and to be unable to see the light of the gospel of Christ (2 Cor. 4:4).

I pray that the eyes of __________'s heart would be enlightened, so that he/she would know the hope that can be found in Jesus (Eph. 1:18).
