Success for Christian schools often depends on their ability to mount large and varied-and expensive-academic, arts, and athletic programs. Some have done this amazingly well, becoming, in places, the elite schools in their communities. Others, unable to keep up, are closing their doors, chiefly in the urban areas, where the need for their services is arguably greatest. The pressure and competition are intense.
