Julio, the hero of the play, a draft dodger from Bonaparte's army settled in Piedmont, symbolizes the hated figure of the Resistant. A historical drama that doubles as an amorous puzzle, The Trip in the Carriage recalls the tradition of romantic theater, with its key ingredients of movement, spectacle and excessiveness.
