Winner of the 2002 Gibbs Smith Poetry Competition, Kelly Le Fave's Me Comma You is an exploration of self, wrapped up in desire of mythic proportions and prophetic consequences.
"I tell you, my right and my left are in sync,
my two hands are decent people,
my brain is not an ice pick. Listen!
Give me something broken
I am not afraid of the mess,
the wretched tangled machinery.
Stuffed in your paper bag, my wrench glows,
ignites the electricity behind our girders.
I could have swallowed it whole
and carried the lump beyond the horizon.
I could have given it to you, a sign
of my virility, a token of my utter
consent. . . ."
Kelly Le Fave holds an MFA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and is an editor of the poetry journal Jubilat. Her poetry has appeared in publications such as The Massachusetts Review, The Notre Dame Review, and Painted Bride Quarterly. She resides in Portland, Oregon.
