Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Randy Bishop is a history teacher at Middleton High School in Tennessee and has been the recipient of a variety of honors, including multiple Teacher of the Year awards and recognition in Who's Who Among America's Teachers. An advocate for preservation of sites related to the American Civil War, he has published numerous articles and books on the subject, including Mississippi's Civil War Battlefields: A Guide to Their History and Preservation, Tennessee's Civil War Battlefields: A Guide to Their History and Preservation, The Tennessee Brigade, and Kentucky's Civil War Battlefields: A Guide to Their History and Preservation, which was chosen as an alternate selection of the History Book Club®. He holds a BS from Union University and a MEd from the University of Memphis. A member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Bishop is also involved with the Civil War Preservation Trust, the Tennessee Civil War Preservation Association, and the Parker's Crossroads Battlefield Association. Tennessee contains approximately twenty-nine hundred recorded sites from the Civil War. One thousand of these are locations of military action of varying sizes. Today, commercial and residential development threatens the conservation of these sites. This book presents a chronological overview of twenty of the major battles in the state through firsthand documents and established sources. Maps and more than one hundred photographs enhance the text to give the reader a comprehensive understanding of the significance of these battles and the current efforts to preserve a crucial piece of Tennessee's past.

In addition to serving as an adjunct for Jackson State Community College, Randy Bishop teaches history at Middleton High School in Tennessee. He is a six-time recipient of the Teacher of the Year Award and was recognized in Who's Who Among America's Teachers. Along with contributing articles to such publications as Civil War Courier and Country Discoveries, the Civil War enthusiast authored Pelican's The Tennessee Brigade. Bishop resides in Middleton, Tennessee.
