At the end of WWII, a number of German admirals held as prisoners of war were persuaded by British naval intelligence officials to write down their thoughts on Germany's build up to war, its early victories, and eventual defeat. Produced by a father-son team of naval historians, this volume places extracts from English translations of these memoirs within their historical context. The admirals' comments have been arranged into thematic chapters, each covering a particular aspect of the war at sea. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

Hardcover. Zustand: Good. At the end of World War II, British Naval Intelligence persuaded a number of German admirals held as prisoners-of-war to write essays setting out their thoughts on Germany's build up to war, the early victories, and its eventual defeat. These essays languished in the British archives, unnoticed by researchers until a father-son team of naval historians recognized their value. Nine of the best are included in this book. These essays clearly indicate an intimate knowledge of every aspect of the war at sea and the decision-making processes that determined Germany's conduct of the war at sea.
