Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Florence L. Heyl was born in Linden, NJ in 1908. A graduate of Montclair Normal School, now Montclair State University, she taught first grade for two years. Drawn by the opportunity to influence young girls to love camping and the out-of-doors, she began a career with the Girl Scouts. Starting with a position with the Montclair Council, she also worked in San Diego, CA and Portland, OR. In 1934, she was hired as the first full time director of the Lehigh County GS Council in Allentown, PA and remained with them until her marriage in 1940. She took particular pride in establishing their first permanent resident camp--Camp Mosey Wood.

After raising four children, she began writing a nature column, You Can Find It Wild for the local Call Chronicle newspaper. In 1973, Florence moved with her architect husband, John, to East Boothbay, ME. She immediately contacted the local newspapers and soon her You Can Find It Wild column was appearing in the Boothbay Register and The Lincoln County News. Florence continued her column until she was into her nineties. At the time of this printing, she had recently celebrated her 94th birthday.
