Frank J. Cavaioli, professor emeritus at Farmingdale State University and visiting professor at Florida Atlantic University, holds the BA, MA and PhD degrees. Author of ten books, more than fifty scholarly articles and a contributor to various encyclopedias, he is a longtime proponent and researcher of state and local history. Among the many awards he has received, he is particularly proud of the following: Freedoms Foundation George Washington Honor Medal, Colonial Dames Society Award, Immigration History Research grant at the University of Minnesota, Moody Research grant at the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library, and SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching at Farmingdale State. He is a Newberry Library Research Fellow and a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellow at the University of Michigan.
