Inhaltsangabe

Hudson lay in his sleeping bag, staring at the sky. It bothered him a lot. There was not one familiar constellation, not one star that he could name with any certainty. This juggling of the stars, he thought, emphasized more than anything else in this ancient land the vast gulf of years which lay between him and the Earth where he had been-or would be-born.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Clifford D. Simak (1904-1988) was an American science fiction writer and journalist whose work helped define the humane, reflective side of twentieth-century speculative fiction. Born in Wisconsin, Simak brought a distinctly rural and Midwestern sensibility to science fiction, often setting extraordinary events against small towns, farms, woods, ordinary work, and quiet domestic life. His best-known works include City, Time and Again, Way Station, and many stories that blend cosmic speculation with tenderness, irony, and philosophical restraint.Simak was associated with the Golden Age of science fiction but never fit neatly into its more mechanistic or militarized patterns. His fiction frequently explores time, alien contact, evolution, technology, mortality, community, and the moral responsibilities that come with discovery. Project Mastodon, first published in Galaxy Science Fiction in 1955, shows his gift for taking a grand speculative idea-commercial access to the prehistoric past-and grounding it in practical human motives. Simak received major honors during his career, including Hugo and Nebula recognition, and remains an essential writer for readers interested in classic science fiction, time travel stories, pastoral SF, and the more thoughtful tradition of American speculative fiction.
