Windflowers, a collection of fifty poems in traditional forms on natural subjects, illuminates their subtler, elemental truths, often escaping literal, surface perception by humans. Enriched by Rachel Hunderfund's drawings, the book advocates deep respect for nature's health, and hopes for mankind's wholeness within it.

New Paltz poet Roger Roloff, author of six previous collections of poems, continues in Windflowers his long and fruitful exploration of Mother Earth firsthand. A homestead gardener with a song in his heart, he is loyal to traditional ways of making and turning the singing line: sonnets, rhymed couplets, villanelles, and blank verse, to name a few. Aided and inspired at home and afield by his wife, retired musicologist Barbara Petersen, he practices older, simpler means of living from the land while preserving its health. In essence the couple's own baker's dozen acres and fortunate surroundings in New York's Ulster County have given distinct and potent voices to these figurative blossoms, his windflowers.
In a career spanning three decades, Rachel Hunderfund (B.F.A., M.A.) has exhibited internationally, with works in private collections as well. She attended the Art Students' League in Manhattan, where she honed her figure-drawing skills. She received a merit scholarship from the Woodstock School of Art, where she studied with Hongnian Zhang and Lois Woolley. She also attended the Art Institute of Florence/Lorenzo de Medici, studying with Rose Shakinovsky and Claire Gavronsky, very influential in developing her style and technique. Also certified in yoga practice and instruction (C-IAYT, CYT), Rachel uses her creative skills in these disciplines, for they remain strong guides in her art and life.
