Violence, pain, anger, frustration, resistance, faith, love, and determination! The poems in this book are inspired by my experiences growing up as a first-generation Salvadoran-American, bisexual girl in a working-class, diverse hood known as tha mission, located in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. This book is a collection of poems I wrote when I was in high school, while I attended SFSU and as I dealt with the realities of poverty, gangs, racism, sexism, and homophobia. There is also some poetry I wrote as I completed graduate school in San Diego. These poems chronicle my roller-coaster emotions and thoughts as I struggled to find meaning and purpose in my life. They reflect diverse poetic styles I experimented with over those ten years of my life, as I transitioned from a teenager into a young adult.
