Alan V. Murray is an expert in the history of the crusades, especially in the conquest and Christianization of the Baltic countries, and has edited three collections of essays on the Baltic crusades. He has also great experience with reference works: he was Director of the International Medieval Bibliography from 2007-2024 and edited The Crusades: An Encyclopedia, 4 vols (2007) [Outstanding Reference Source, selected by Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), American Library Association] and The Crusades to the Holy Land: The Essential Reference Guide (2015). He was also a co-editor of A Database of Crusaders to the Holy Land, 1099-1149.
