WILNER JEANTY, and DEBORAH PEREZ are researchers at the Hobby Center for the Study of Texas at Rice University, and MARY ZEY is professor emerita at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Murdock, the lead author, is the Allyn and Gladys Cline Professor of Sociology and director of the Hobby Center.
