Inhaltsangabe

Bill Lennox read the telegram, then traded it back to the blonde. A very nice blonde with long willowy legs and purple eyes. "Tell him to go to hell!" "I can't, Bill. I promised-" That's how it started. Before it finished, Bill found himself accused of murder! To clear himself, he had to learn why anyone would want to kill the nice blonde's husband. He had to tangle with the mysterious-and dangerous-Patsy South. Above all, Bill had to track down whoever it was trying to make him fall guy for a killer.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

W. T. Ballard (1903-1980), born Willis Todhunter Ballard, was an American writer best known for his crime, mystery, western, and adventure fiction. A prolific professional author, he wrote for pulp magazines, paperback publishers, and the popular fiction market for decades, producing a large body of fast-paced work marked by clean plotting, direct prose, and a strong sense of action.Ballard published stories in major magazines and pulp venues, including Black Mask, where he became associated with tough, efficient crime storytelling. He also wrote under several pseudonyms, including John Shepherd, Neil MacNeil, and P. D. Ballard. His Bill Lennox mysteries draw on the atmosphere of Hollywood and the entertainment business, combining murder plots with backstage tension, professional rivalry, and the moral compromises of a world built on appearances.Alongside his mystery fiction, Ballard wrote westerns and adventure stories, showing the versatility expected of successful pulp-era writers. His work remains valuable for readers interested in hardboiled crime, mid-century paperback fiction, and the bridge between magazine pulp storytelling and the later mass-market mystery novel.
