In a world of tomorrow too much like today, where man and machine co-exist in something less than harmony, and both are orchestrated by a shadow government…In the dark streets of a dystopian world, where the bright lights of the future have long been extinguished…In a teetering society built on the backs of the workers and underprivileged, there comes a man unlike any other. His name is Orlak. He has no memory of his past, no plan for his future. His hands have been replaced with robotic pretensions that can capture, caress or kill, of their own volition. He is a puzzle with ten missing pieces. Collecting the haunting series that appeared in the Caliber Press Anthology CALIBER PRESENTS and the one-shot ORLAK: FLESH AND STEEL, and was inspired by the Peter Lorre film "Mad Love" and the novel The Hands of Orlac, artist/creator Ken Holewczynski (Nosferatu; Mr. X; Beton Brut) and writer Rafael Nieves (Nosferatu; Hellstorm, Prince of Lies; Vampire: The Masquerade) take you on a sublime, harrowing journey of one man’s struggle to find himself, before he can kill - or be killed – again.

RAFAEL NIEVES Nieves is a comic book writer with over 25 years’ experience in the field. He began his career with the publication of Tales from the Heart, first published by Entropy Enterprises before moving, with issue #3, to Slave Labor Graphics. The series, co-written with Cindy Goff, told the story of Cathy Grant, a Peace Corps volunteer stationed in Central Africa in the 1980s, chronicling her trials and tribulations as a “stranger in a strange land.” It was illustrated by William “Seitu” Hayden. Tales from the Heart spawned two full-color one-shots published by Marvel Comics’ creator-owner label, Epic Comics, and the latter book, Bloodlines, was nominated for two Eisner Awards in 1993 (Best Single Issue, Self-Contained Story; and Best Graphic Album -- New). Since then, Nieves has worked for a number of publishers, including Marvel Comics (Hellstorm, Prince of Lies), Caliber Comics (Orlak, Nosferatu, both with Ken Holewczynski, Edgar Allan Poe’s The Bells), Comico Comics/Northstar (Cold-Blooded), and Moonstone Books (The Phantom, Welcome Back, Mr. Moto, Vampire: The Masquerade). He is the author of The Apocalypse Plan; Bob Howard: Plumber of the Unknown, and many other titles. He has also contributed to the annual horror anthology 10|31. Nieves lives in Berwyn, IL with his wife, one of two daughters, a puppy, a cat, a mortgage, and big dreams. KEN HOLEWZYNSKI jumped into the black and white comic explosion in early 1990’s, first self-publishing, and then honing his skills and eventually doing work in various roles for many of the new independents at that time. Starting out lettering for First Comics, and then doing letters, colors and covers for Now Comics, Holewczynski continued to create original work with long-time collaborator, Rafael Nieves, finding a steady home for works at Caliber Press for his personal projects, including an full-color adaptation of Nosferatu and the black and white series, Orlak. His expressionistic style eventually caught the eye of Vortex publisher Bill Marks, who brought Holewczynski on to ink the black and white relaunch of Dean Motter’s Mr. X. The same period also saw the three-issue sci-fi uptake on the German classic, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, entitled Caligari 2050, published by Monster Comics. Holewczynski currently lives with his wife, Lori, in South Bend, Indiana and works as a freelance graphic designer.
